Rainbow Rise was originally a thoroughbred farm from 1982-2010, owned and operated by Joan Audette, the matriarch of the property and family. Rainbow Rise Family Farm took root when Joan's son, Ryan, realized his passion was planting, growing food and tending to the land. We want to serve the community healthful food and from scratch food products, while also offering space for gatherings, events and photoshoots.
Food is freedom.
“Food is freedom. Folks who can sustainably feed themselves aren't beholden to anyone.”
. From sourcing seeds to making products, each step is done with care, intention, logic and with our community in mind.
All in the family since 1982
Are our top priority when planning and harvesting.
We strive to be the locally grown, family owned heart of Ocala
The plants don't need them and your body doesn't either! We use natural methods to keep our plants growing strong.
We read up on different approaches to farming and permaculture from around the world and started small, with a single 15 X 30 foot bed for annuals. We quickly realized that we were exceptionally lucky, in that out land has very rich soil in contrast to much of the rest of our region, and expanded rapidly, adding three more beds the same size. We also began planting trees, a passion shared by everyone on the farm. Everything kicked into high gear when we started reaching out to local nurseries and were able to find a company that would provide us with dozens of fruiting and beneficial trees as well as pollinator perennials, and additionally, plant them all in a half acre food forest. Throughout this process, we have worked to utilize the gifts our land has given us, from relocating trees on site to more desirable locations, to finding and potting seeds in order to begin a nursery, and even working with our local tree trimming service to use the mulch from trees on our property as mulch for our forest floor. As our garden grew, so too has our vision, but we've never stepped away from our core belief- that if we take care of the land, the land will take care of us. We'll never outgrow our roots.
